1> Header paint is not for motorcycle exhaust systems. It will not stick, regardless of how you prep the headpipe. Tried it on a straight pipe on the Savage, and it ALL blisterd/burned off within 20 minutes of starting the bike. You want that look, get it HPC ceramic coated and be done with it, they have aluminum tone and it has a real warranty on it.
2> If you want to eally set off the fins and such, get some PJ1 Harley Davidson wrinkle finish black and follow the label directions to the letter.
3> To minimize the reoccurance of bluing, polish the pipe and proceed as follows:
A: tape off one end and fill the pipe with barbeque paint. Dump out the excess, let remainder cure, and repeat 2-3 more times.
B: Go to the hardware store and get a piece of flared copper tubing used in gas lines. Cut it to fit i the Savage pipe, will promote the movement of exhaust gases under a higher pressure, allowing less heat to stay in the pipe.
C: Send it off to be repolished by a pro, but do not have it rechromed.
D: Reinstall and ride the snot out of it.
